Lakeland Lands MATC Opposite Hitter AJ Azbell

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Milwaukee Area Technical College sophomore opposite hitter Angelina "AJ" Azbell, a 6-foot right‑side hitter known for her discipline and low‑error play, has officially signed with Lakeland University in Plymouth, Wisconsin. The Holly, Michigan, native moves from the NJCAA ranks to NCAA Division III, joining a Muskies squad that finished 16–14 last season in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Azbell earned the opportunity after a steady and reliable sophomore campaign in which she remained one of MATC's most dependable front‑row options. She appeared in 40 matches and 83 sets, producing 68 kills, 218 attacks, one assist, one ace and only one service error. She also added 27 digs and 22 blocks defensively, helping her close the year with 81.5 points and a 2025 All‑Academic Team selection. Her consistency and low‑mistake play helped anchor a Stormers roster that secured its second straight 30‑win season, finishing 30–12.

Her sophomore season built on a breakout freshman year that played a major role in the most successful two-season stretch in program history. Azbell was a key contributor during MATC's 2024 Region IV District A Championship and the Stormers' first NJCAA National Tournament appearance, posting 125 kills, 34 blocks and 145 points as a true freshman.
Across two seasons, Azbell appeared in 76 matches and 201 sets, totaling 193 kills, 657 attacks, five assists, one ace and just one service error. She added 58 digs, 56 total blocks and 226.5 career points, providing consistent production and competitive energy throughout her time in Milwaukee.

MATC head coach Shel DeLisle said Azbell's impact extended well beyond the stat sheet.

"AJ is an incredible player and terrific teammate," DeLisle said. "She brings a lightness to the court when things are heavy and lifts her teammates when the play gets too serious. She is a great addition to any roster. I can't wait to see what she accomplishes at Lakeland University."

With her MATC career complete and a championship run behind her, Azbell now brings her veteran experience, discipline and steady front‑row presence to Lakeland as she begins the next chapter of her collegiate volleyball journey.
