SUGAR GROVE, Ill. — MATC men's tennis picked up two team points for the first time this season Saturday, highlighted by
Isaiah Marin's first collegiate win and
Peyton Kuzminski's second singles victory, in a 5–2 road loss at Waubonsee Community College.
The Stormers, competing shorthanded all season with a three‑player roster, again forfeited five courts — No. 2 and No. 3 doubles along with No. 4–6 singles — but delivered their strongest singles showing of the year.
At No. 2 singles, Kuzminski controlled the match from start to finish, earning a straight‑set win (6-2. 6-3) to secure his second victory of the spring. Marin followed with a breakthrough performance at No. 3 singles, rolling to a straight‑set win (6-3, 6-1) for the first triumph of his collegiate career.
"Both of the guys played well in their wins against Waubonsee," MATC head coach Mark Picard said. "It was our first outdoor match of the year and they quickly adjusted to the conditions. Both were able to control the neutral balls and force errors from their opponents."
In doubles,
Braxton Brusky and Kuzminski battled at No. 1, falling 8–4 in one of their most competitive outings to date. Brusky later dropped his match at No. 1 singles in straight sets.
