WAUWATOSA, Wis. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College men's tennis team delivered its strongest performance of the season Saturday, sweeping all contested courts in a 5–4 technical loss to Sauk Valley Community College at Whitman Middle School. Competing with only three eligible players, the Stormers were forced to forfeit two doubles and three singles positions, resulting in the narrow team defeat despite winning every match played on court.
MATC also gained two points via Sauk Valley forfeits — at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles — after a Skyhawks player was unable to compete due to injury.
Despite the official 5–4 result, head coach Mark Picard said the performance reflected the team's growth and competitive edge.
"Even though the score shows a 4–5 loss to Sauk Valley, it feels more like a win for us," Picard said. "All five of our match losses were forfeit losses due to having a short roster."
The Stormers' sweep of all contested positions marked a major step forward for a roster that moved to 0–7 but produced its most complete outing of the spring.
At No. 1 singles,
Braxton Brusky delivered his best match of the season, rallying from a 2–5 deficit to take the opening set in a tiebreaker before closing out a 7–6, 6–3 victory.
"Braxton played his best match of the season," Picard said. "He picked up his first collegiate win at No. 1 singles and built on that momentum in the second set."
At No. 3 singles,
Isaiah Marin controlled the match from start to finish, overpowering his opponent 6–0, 6–2 with steady pressure and clean ball‑striking.
"Isaiah continued his strong play, dominating the neutral balls and forcing errors as he steadily won the match," Picard said.
Editor's Note: MATC competes this season with only three eligible players. As a result, the Stormers forfeit No. 2 and No. 3 doubles and No. 4–6 singles in every match, beginning each contest trailing 5–0 in the team score.
