PARK FOREST, Ill. — Milwaukee Area Technical College men's tennis saw its postseason run end Friday at the NJCAA Region 4 Tournament, as both Stormers entries fell in opening‑round singles matches at the Park Forest Tennis and Health Club.
Competing in a single‑elimination bracket, sophomore
Peyton Kuzminski drew the tournament's No. 1 overall seed from Prairie State and dropped a 6–2, 6–2 decision in what marked his final match as a Stormer. Despite the loss, head coach Mark Picard said Kuzminski delivered the strongest performance of his MATC career.
"Over the two years Peyton made constant improvement, and though he finished with a loss today, he played the best match of his career," Picard said. "Taking four total games from the undefeated number one seed from Prairie State — I'm proud of how he worked hard and became a legitimate college tennis player."
In the other flight, freshman
Isaiah Marin fell 6–3, 6–2 to a College of Lake County opponent, but Picard said Marin showed how far he has come in his first collegiate season.
"Isaiah came in as a raw freshman in the fall and made constant improvements throughout the year," Picard said. "At the tournament he showed how good he can be when he believes in himself. He pushed a really good CLC player to the edge but came up just short."
Picard added that Marin's growth was evident throughout the season.
"He completed his freshman year with respect from his opponents as he made everyone earn anything they got from him. Finishing the regular season with a .500 record — this experience will carry him into a more successful second season next year."
The appearance capped strong individual seasons for both Stormers. Marin finished 5–6 overall, including a 5–5 regular season at No. 3 singles, while Kuzminski closed his sophomore year 4–7 after holding down the No. 2 spot throughout the spring.
With only two eligible players available for postseason play, MATC wrapped up a year defined by short‑handed lineups, steady improvement and two well‑earned Region 4 berths.
