LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's volleyball team closed out its six-match road trip to begin the 2025-26 season with a perfect record Monday evening, defeating Iowa Lakes Community College in five sets (25-19, 17-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-13) before sweeping Western Technical College (25-14, 25-21, 25-18) to remain unbeaten.
"It's been a long opening weekend with six matches in four days," MATC head coach
Shel DeLisle said. "We just weren't clicking against Iowa Lakes—trying to run too fast. Once we slowed it down, the women fought hard to keep the win. We were able to regain some chemistry against the Cavs and stopped beating ourselves. The day was good preparation for some of the mental challenges that come with the game."
After dropping the second and third sets to Iowa Lakes, the Stormers showed resilience, edging the Lakers by a combined eight points in the fourth and fifth sets to complete the comeback. The turnaround was powered by strong offensive performances from
Savannah Raymer,
Annika Romine and
Natalia Farrugia. Raymer led the way with a team-high 10 kills, followed by Romine with nine and Farrugia with seven.
Kimberly Busateri anchored the defense with 20 digs and an ace, while
Rachel Krueger added 14 digs—three more than teammate
Grace Adams.
Riding the momentum from their five-set win, the Stormers carried their energy into the nightcap, sweeping Western Technical College in straight sets to cap off the evening with a dominant performance.
Freshman
Allison Chapman paced the offense against the Cavaliers, recording 10 kills on just 16 attempts. Raymer contributed seven kills, one block and a dig, while Farrugia added nine kills and four digs.
Hope Martens tallied 17 assists and eight digs to round out the effort.
