Women’s Volleyball Wins First District Championship in Program History

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – For the first time in school history, the Stormers women's volleyball team has won the NJCAA Region 4 (Midwest A District) championship. The Stormers advance to the NJCAA National Tournament after securing a 3-2 (25-23, 17-25. 10-25, 25-20, 15-12) victory over the Sauk Valley Community College Skyhawks Sunday (11/10/24) afternoon.

Freshman Savannah Raymer led the attack for Milwaukee Area Technical College. Raymer recorded 13 kills and had a .324 hitting percentage. Sophomore Sam Siehr and Freshman Rachel Krueger contributed ten kills each.

Avery Brieske led the Stormers with 26 assists and she was followed up closely by Hannah Council who finished with 20 assists.

Freshman Kimberly Busateri finished the championship match with a season high 32 digs.

"We talked about motivation being inconsistent and discipline being consistent," MATC Head Coach Shel DeLisle said. "We talked about never quitting on the court. We talked about giving the best we could on any given day and needing our 'bestie best' during the playoffs."

"We felt the momentum in sets 4 & 5 building after a horrible set 3," Head Coach DeLisle added. "We could also feel the goodwill of our fans and even other region teams watching, but still could hardly believe it when we so solidly finished with that right side block to set up the match winning kill. The fact that we reached our goal, and to find out that it was a first in history? We were just so proud."

Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers advance to the NJCAA DII National Championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The tournament is hosted by Cedar Rapids Tourism and matches will be played at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse arena November 20-23.

The team will find out its seed and opening round opponent in the NJCAA Tournament on Wednesday (11/13). The NJCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Selection Show will be available on the NJCAA Network.
