MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Milwaukee Area Technical College sophomore guard
Matthew Hoarde has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career at Indiana University Northwest in Gary, Ind. He will join the Redhawks in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference for the 2025–26 season.
Hoarde was the Stormers' leading scorer last year, averaging 16.5 points in 33 games with 18 starts. He recorded a season-high 28 points in a 95–54 home win over Harper College on Dec. 16 and finished his sophomore campaign with 544 points, 247 rebounds (7.5 rpg), 31 steals (0.9 spg) and 17 blocks (0.5 bpg). His 201 defensive rebounds ranked 15th nationally in NJCAA Division II, while his 544 total points ranked 40th among all Division II players.
His consistent play as a Stormer earned him NJCAA All-Region First Team honors and a spot on the NJCAA Division II All-American Second Team. As a result, Hoarde became only the fifth All-American in MATC men's basketball history, joining Yuri Swinford (2020),
Mason Johnson (2022), Mikale Stevenson (2023) and Shelton Williams-Dryden (2024).
"Matt is leaving with a lasting mark on our basketball program as he moves on to the next challenge," MATC head coach
Randy Casey said. "He helped lead our team to the program's seventh district championship and is only the fifth player in program history to finish as an All-American. We are excited to see Matt continue his athletic and academic career at IU Northwest."
Before arriving at MATC, Hoarde played at Olive-Harvey College, where he earned All-Region 4 Second Team honors. In just over 21 minutes per game, he averaged 17.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. He also collected 51 steals, dished out 49 assists and had shooting marks of 48.1 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from 3-point range. His performance afforded him an invitation to the prestigious All-American JUCO Showcase, featuring the nation's top junior college sophomores.
A 2023 graduate of Rockford East High School, Hoarde averaged 18.2 points and 6.1 rebounds as a senior and was named MVP of the Rising Stars All-Star Classic.
