ELGIN, Ill. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's soccer team continued its record-setting start to the 2025-26 campaign with its first shutout victory of the season, defeating Elgin Community College 2-0 on the road Saturday. The Stormers improved to 5-0-2 overall, maintaining an unblemished record and solidifying the best start in program history.
"A 2-0 win earns us three more points in our drive to the playoffs," MATC head coach Aron "Buddy" Gentry said. "Hannah [Christopherson], our returning captain, led the defense with her leadership and composure to earn our third shutout of the season.
Yocelin Valdez-Galindo, our freshman captain, provided consistent and stable play from the midfield, keeping us in control of the match.
Katelyn Haeft continued her record-breaking sophomore campaign. This team continues to prove that with heart, hard work, and unity, they can accomplish anything."
Both teams battled through a scoreless first half, with MATC generating seven shots to Elgin's five. Despite several chances, neither side could break through before halftime.
The breakthrough came in the 64th minute, when sophomore midfielder
Katelyn Haeft slipped past Elgin's defense and scored off an assist from freshman Yocelin Valdez-Galin to give the Stormers a 1-0 lead. Just five minutes later, Haeft struck again—this time finishing a crisp pass from freshman defender
Litzzy Suarez in the 69th minute to double the advantage.
With the pair of goals, Haeft extended her single-season program record to 13 goals.
Freshman goalkeeper
Caroline Buczynski earned her first clean sheet of the season, collecting four saves over 90 minutes to anchor the Stormers' defense.
MATC held the edge in both shots and corner kicks, finishing with 13 shots and five corners compared to Elgin's eight shots and three corners.
