Stormers Fall in Road Finale at Rock Valley

ROCKFORD, Ill. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's soccer team couldn't stop its late-season slide Saturday, falling 7-2 to Rock Valley College in its final regular-season road matchup. The loss marked the Stormers' third straight defeat and dropped them to 5-3-2 overall.

"Our women's team showed incredible heart against the top team in Region 4, Rock Valley—a program that's represented us at Nationals the past two years," MATC head coach Aron "Buddy" Gentry said. "While the result didn't go our way, we continued to compete with pride. Huge congratulations to Katelyn Haeft, who scored her record-setting 16th goal of the season!"

Rock Valley set the tone early, striking in the 15th minute and again just before halftime to take a 2-0 lead into the break. The Golden Eagles then poured in five second-half goals to put the match out of reach.

MATC managed to break through in the 69th minute, when sophomore Katelyn Haeft found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 4-1. But Rock Valley quickly regained control, responding with three goals in an eight-minute span — scoring in the 77th, 82nd and 85th minutes — to close out the win.

The Stormers were outmatched from the opening whistle, finishing with just four total shots compared to Rock Valley's 25. The Golden Eagles dominated possession and offensive pressure, outshooting MATC 18-1 on shots on goal.

Six different Rock Valley players scored, with Hailey Wesphal leading the way with two goals. The Golden Eagles' balanced attack and relentless pace proved too much for MATC's defense to contain.

Stormers goalkeeper Caroline Buczynski faced constant pressure in net, recording 11 saves while allowing seven goals on 18 shots on target.
