JOLIET, Ill. – Despite a 27-point eruption from sophomore
Matthew Hoarde, the Milwaukee Area Technical College men's basketball team wasn't able to come away with a road victory against Joliet Junior College Thursday evening.
A huge part in the Stormers' 107-99 road loss to the Panthers came down to the discrepancy in free throw attempts. As a team, MATC shot just 58 percent from the charity stripe (11-of-19) meanwhile the Panthers sank 83 percent of their free throws on a staggering 35 attempts.
The disparity in freebies proved to be one the deciding factor that moved the Stormers to 7-13 overall and 2-8 on the road.
Outside of free throws, both teams proved to match up pretty evenly. Both squads wound up shooting 47 percent from the field and 33 percent from deep. However, the Stormers were able to win the turnover battle 12-5.
