Casey Named WBCA Junior College Coach of the Year After Historic 2025–26 Season

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Milwaukee Area Technical College is pleased to announce that men's basketball head coach Randy Casey has been named the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Junior College Men's Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2025–26 season. It marks the fifth time he has received the award, having also been previously honored in 2024, 2023, 2020 and 2019. The honor, announced April 23, caps a remarkable bounce‑back campaign for the Stormers and reinforces Casey's standing as one of the state's most accomplished junior college coaches.

The award comes at the end of a season that will be remembered as one of the finest in program history. One year removed from a 16–18 finish, MATC surged to a 31–5 record and climbed as high as No. 5 in the NJCAA Division II national rankings. The Stormers went 27–3 during the regular season, protected home court with a perfect 13–0 mark and closed the schedule on a 20‑game win streak. MATC then swept the Region 4 Postseason Tournament to claim the Midwest District A championship and secure another trip to the NJCAA National Tournament.

"I can't thank the WBCA enough for being selected as the Junior College Men's Basketball Coach of the Year," Casey said. "This is an amazing honor and a great reflection of the shared commitment of my coaching staff, the players, and our MATC community. This award would not be possible without all of them."

MATC's rise was fueled by one of the most efficient and explosive statistical profiles in the country. The Stormers ranked second nationally in scoring at 103.7 points per game and fourth in field‑goal percentage at 51.8 percent. They also finished second in total rebounds at 46.4 per game and placed inside the national top ten in assists, steals, offensive efficiency and net efficiency. It was a fast, unselfish and disciplined style of play, and it became the backbone of MATC's 31–5 campaign.

That identity carried into the national tournament, where the Stormers earned the No. 3 seed — the second highest in program history — and extended their winning streak to 24 games before falling to eventual national champion Parkland College in the quarterfinals. The Elite Eight finish capped a season defined by consistency, depth and a roster that continued to elevate its level of play.

Casey's 18 seasons at MATC have produced one of the most consistent JUCO programs in the Midwest, highlighted by the 2023 NJCAA Division II national championship and a steady presence on the national stage. Over the past eight years, the Stormers have compiled an impressive 209–45 overall record and claimed seven Region/District titles, a dominant run that reflects both long-term stability and high expectations.

Casey's career record at MATC now stands at 376–193, a mark shaped by nearly two decades of steady growth and competitive consistency. Before arriving in Milwaukee, he spent seven seasons leading Mid‑State Technical College, which gave him experience that helped lay the foundation for the program he has since built at MATC. His fifth WBCA honor reflects not only the achievements of the 2025–26 season, but also the level of excellence he has maintained throughout his tenure with the Stormers.
