CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Following the recent recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the NJCAA has made the difficult decision to cancel all upcoming basketball championships as well as spring competition, effective immediately.
The NJCAA's announcement affects the MATC men's basketball program and the school's baseball, softball and men's tennis programs.
The Stormers men's basketball team qualified for the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship after winning the Region 4 / District 3 (Midwest A) championship on March 7. The national tournament was scheduled to be played March 17 to 21 in Danville, Illinois. MATC was heading into the national tournament ranked number 1 in the NJCAA poll, and they were the overall number 1 seed.
Both the baseball and softball teams had already begun their seasons. The baseball team's season comes to an end with a record of
6-4 in the first several weeks of play, and the softball squad posted a
1-5 record at the N4C Dome Jamboree. The MATC men's tennis team did not compete before the season was canceled.
The NJCAA will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
