MATC Basketball Set for Region 4 Postseason Tournament: Men Enter as No. 1 Seed, Women Open on the Road

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Postseason basketball tips off later this week for Milwaukee Area Technical College, beginning Wednesday with the women's team opening Region 4 Tournament play on the road, followed on Thursday by the nationally ranked MATC men, who enter the bracket as one of the top contenders in the country. Both programs will compete in the 2026 NJCAA Region 4 Tournament, but the spotlight centers on the Stormers' men's squad, which carries a top‑five national ranking and the No. 1 seed into its postseason run.

No. 5 in Nation, No. 1 Seed in Region 4

The MATC men's basketball team begins its postseason run with legitimate championship aspirations. Ranked No. 5 nationally and currently riding a 20‑game win streak, the Stormers enter the 2026 Region 4 Men's Basketball Division II (Midwest District A) Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed following an impressive 27–3 regular season record.

MATC will host No. 16 Prairie State on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m., the final home game before the bracket shifts to Rock Valley College for the quarterfinals and championship rounds.

A win would send the Stormers to Rockford to face the winner of No. 8 Waubonsee vs. No. 9 Elgin on Sunday, March 1 at 12 p.m. The Region 4 title game is scheduled for Saturday, March 7 at 12 p.m., also at Rock Valley.

The Stormers have been one of the most complete teams in the region all season, pairing an efficient, high‑tempo offense with a defense that has steadily tightened during their two‑month unbeaten stretch. With depth, balance and momentum, MATC enters the postseason as a clear favorite to contend for the district crown and a berth in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.

"We want our guys to understand that what they've accomplished so far is meaningful, but the playoffs are a different animal," MATC head coach Randy Casey said. "We have to treat it like a new season and stay locked in on one game at a time."

Lady Stormers Open on the Road as No. 10 Seed

The MATC women's basketball team also begins postseason play this week, competing in the 2026 Region 4 Women's Basketball Division II Midwest District B Tournament, hosted by Rock Valley College. The Stormers enter at 16–14 overall, 8–10 away from home, and riding a two‑game win streak of their own.

MATC earned the No. 10 seed in the 16‑team combined A/B bracket and will open on the road against No. 7 Oakton at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

Head coach Arom Murrell said his team is embracing the challenge.

"We are excited to be preparing for the playoffs," Murrell said. "Finishing as a No. 10 seed in a very competitive region speaks volumes about the work these young ladies put in this season. Oakton is a very formidable opponent — we had to rally in the fourth quarter for a come‑from‑behind victory against them back in December, and I'm sure they'll have that in the back of their minds as they prepare to avenge that loss. However, we are confident that we are much better than we were in December and that we won't make it as difficult for ourselves as we did back then. I anticipate a very competitive and entertaining game on Wednesday night."

A win would send MATC to the quarterfinals to face the winner of No. 2 Madison vs. No. 15 McHenry on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. at Rock Valley. The championship game is set for Saturday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m.
