Foul Trouble Leaves Stormer Women Shorthanded in Loss

The Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers women's basketball team were already playing shorthanded on Saturday afternoon. They were missing Demetria Watson and Serita Campbell, leaving them with just seven players. Once the game got started, the Stormers found themselves in more trouble as players quickly racked up fouls, 16 in the first half alone.

The Stormers went into the half trailing by just four points despite having half as many free throw attempts as the Harper College Hawks and ten less points from the charity stripe. At the half, three Stormers players had three or four fouls. The news wasn't much better for the Hawks who were playing with just six players. They went into halftime with three players having three fouls.

The Stormers would go down by as many as 15 points in the second half. Four players fouled out of the game and one player was injured, leaving the Stormers with just two players on the court in the waning seconds of the game, a 67-59 loss.

The Stormers were unable to contain Hawks' center Monica Hinderer who recorded a double-double with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Rachel Payne added 20 points for the Hawks with half of those coming from the free throw line. Jayna Rowland, who also fouled out of the game, recorded 12 points and Sancha Ogden led all players with 16 rebounds.

The Stormers had four players finish with ten or more points. Jasmine Gray paced MATC with a double-double of 14 points and 16 rebounds. Claire Goyette had 13 points, Emerald Kidd had 12, and Raven Stevens put accounted for ten points. Hadeel Abujuaber, Goyette, Tori Sykes and Gray all fouled out of the game for the Stormers. Tiara Johnson was injured late in the game for MATC as well.

The Stormers fell to 5-19 overall, 3-9 in the conference and 4-11 in the region with the loss. They play their final home game against Wilbur Wright College on Wednesday, February 20, at noon at Alverno College. Admission is free. The Stormers beat Wilbur Wright College on January 26, 66-63.
