CHICAGO, Ill. — With only six healthy players available, MATC couldn't withstand a late surge and fell 67–65 at Harry S. Truman on Saturday, undone by a 21–12 fourth‑quarter swing that extended its losing streak to three games and dropped the Stormers to 14–14 overall.
After trailing 22–17 through the first quarter, MATC settled in during the second and matched Truman's pace to pull within 36–34 at halftime. The Stormers carried that momentum into the third, producing their sharpest stretch of the afternoon with a 19–10 frame that built a 53–46 lead. The game tightened again in the fourth as Truman chipped away and eventually drew even, and the Stormers' short rotation showed late when the Falcons secured an offensive rebound in the final seconds and converted the putback at the buzzer to hand MATC a 67–65 loss.
"It was a great effort on the road, and we fought through injury, fatigue and hysteria, but we came up short," MATC head coach
Arom Murrell said. "I was happy with our effort."
MATC shot 35.4 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from three, narrowly behind Truman's 36.7 percent overall and 33.3 percent from deep. The Falcons' advantage at the foul line proved critical, converting 18 free throws compared with the Stormers' 12. Truman also held a 40–38 edge on the glass and collected 13 offensive rebounds that led to key second‑chance points. Both teams finished with 14 turnovers, leaving MATC without the extra possessions needed to protect its second‑half lead.
Freshman guard
Sa'Nyai Mitchell paced the Stormers with 17 points on 5‑of‑11 shooting, adding five assists, two rebounds and a steal in 38 minutes. Freshman
Laila Hamiel followed with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists, while sophomore forward
Moriah Landry delivered a double‑double with 14 points and a game‑high 13 rebounds — six on the offensive glass — along with three assists and a steal. Freshman Maniyah Wooldridge added eight points, five rebounds and two steals, and freshman center
Zirhe Sellers contributed four points, four rebounds and three blocks before fouling out after 17 minutes off the bench.
