JANESVILLE, Wis. — Milwaukee Area Technical College snapped a three‑game losing streak Monday night with its most connected offensive performance in weeks, piling up a team‑high 23 assists in an 88–67 win over Blackhawk Technical College. The Stormers (15–14) controlled the pace on both ends and outscored the Hawks 51–35 after halftime to climb back above .500.
"We came out with purpose and great energy," MATC head coach
Arom Murrell said. "Blackhawk was well prepared and showed true resilience, so hats off to them."
MATC established control early with a steady mix of interior scoring and defensive pressure, building multiple possession leads throughout the first quarter.
Moriah Landry opened the scoring, and the Stormers quickly found rhythm as
Emani Summers pushed the pace and
Laila Hamiel added a series of strong finishes.
Maniyah Woolridge dominated the paint during a key stretch, scoring on putbacks and rolls to help MATC push the margin to 27–15. Blackhawk responded with a brief run, but
Sa'Nyai Mitchell steadied the Stormers at the line, and Hamiel buried a late three as MATC carried a 37–32 lead into halftime.
Blackhawk trimmed the deficit to one bucket early in the third quarter, but MATC answered with its most decisive surge of the night. Landry scored inside to halt the push,
Lacee Rodriguez knocked down a jumper, and Mitchell drilled a three to restore a comfortable cushion. From there, the Stormers controlled the tempo, turning stops into transition points while Hamiel, Woolridge and Mitchell continued to score in bunches. MATC's lead grew steadily and never dipped again, with a late burst at the free‑throw line sealing the 88–67 victory.
Sa'Nyai Mitchell and
Laila Hamiel powered the Stormers offensively, combining for 46 points to set the tone in the win. The team numbers reflected MATC's control throughout the night. The Stormers shot 45.2 percent from the field and held Blackhawk to just 1‑for‑17 from three (5.9 percent), while converting 16‑of‑25 at the line. MATC won the rebounding battle 44–39 and forced 15 turnovers, turning them into 21 points. The Stormers also doubled the Hawks in second‑chance scoring, 20–10, and built a largest lead of 23. Blackhawk held a 52–42 edge in points in the paint and outscored MATC's bench 26–5, but the Stormers' efficiency and ball movement — highlighted by 23 assists — carried them to the 21-point win.
