Stormers Strike Early, Shut Out Kishwaukee in Season Debut

MALTA, Ill. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's soccer team opened its 2026 season in commanding fashion Saturday, defeating Kishwaukee College 3–0 behind a suffocating defensive effort and a balanced first‑half attack. MATC's organization and tempo were evident from the start, with the Stormers controlling possession, dictating pace and showcasing the depth that fueled last year's breakthrough 5–4–1 campaign.

"The women's soccer program delivered a commanding performance in our season opener, securing a 3–0 shutout built on tactical discipline and strong team organization," MATC head coach Aaron "Buddy" Gentry said. "The match highlighted the depth of our roster, beginning with milestone collegiate goals from first‑year players Anyelis [Alamilla Cruz] and our Freshman Captain [Adalyn Raue] to open their college careers.

"Returning sophomore Vanessa Reyes extended the lead by drawing a penalty and converting the spot‑kick for her first goal of the season. Defensively, the squad stayed clinical throughout the match, allowing only one shot and enabling returning goalkeeper Carol to record her first official shutout of the year."

MATC controlled the match from the opening whistle, conceding only one shot the entire afternoon — a routine save handled by sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Buczynski. The Stormers, meanwhile, piled up 12 shots on goal, including seven in the first half, converting three of them to build a decisive lead.

Freshman forward Anyelis Alamilla Cruz opened the scoring in the 15th minute, finishing a setup from sophomore midfielder Yocelin Valdez‑Galindo. Sophomore forward Vanessa Reyes doubled the advantage seven minutes later with an unassisted strike in the 22nd minute.

MATC capped its dominant first half in the 32nd minute when freshman midfielder Adalyn Raue scored off an assist from freshman Analia Roman, pushing the Stormers ahead 3–0 at halftime.

Neither team scored in the second half, but MATC continued to dictate play, generating five more shots on goal while holding Kishwaukee without a single attempt. Buczynski finished with one save in a complete 90‑minute effort.
