Stormers Fall at Madison College to Close Regular Season

MADISON, Wis. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's soccer team battled back to tie the match early in the second half, but Madison College responded with the decisive goal minutes later and pulled away for a 3-1 victory Wednesday evening in the Stormers' regular-season finale.

The Stormers erased a halftime deficit shortly after the break and stayed within one goal for much of the second half before Madison added an insurance goal in the 87th minute to secure the victory.

"Tonight was a fun match," Stormers head coach Aron "Buddy" Gentry said. "We went back and forth in a battle but ultimately fell short in a tough two-goal loss. It was a tightly contested match where two of their goals just barely slipped past our keeper. Despite the scoreline, our goalkeeper Caroline Buczynski put on an impressive display highlighted by a brilliant penalty-kick save."

Madison, which entered the match with a 9-3-2 record, controlled much of the first half, generating seven shots and breaking through in the 37th minute on an assisted goal to take a 1-0 lead. The Wolfpack carried that advantage into halftime after limiting MATC without a shot during the opening 45 minutes.

Looking for a spark, the Stormers responded immediately after the restart. Just over two minutes into the second half, freshman midfielder Adalyn Raue scored off an assist from sophomore forward Vanessa Reyes to even the match at 1-1 and inject life into the MATC attack.

Madison answered less than six minutes later with what proved to be the game-winning goal when Emlyn Knutson connected in the 53rd minute to break the tie. Trailing by just one goal, the Stormers remained within striking distance for more than 30 minutes before the Wolfpack added an insurance goal in the 87th minute to help seal the match.

Madison finished with an 18-4 advantage in shots, including a 12-2 edge in shots on goal, while also holding a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Buczynski, the Stormers' second-year starting goalkeeper, recorded nine saves to keep MATC within reach throughout the contest.

The defeat concluded the 2026 season for the Stormers, who finished 3-8-1 overall. While the record fell short of last year's 5-4-3 campaign, MATC showed resilience throughout the season and closed the year by competing toe-to-toe at times against a Madison squad that entered the night with nine wins and just three losses.

"I'm proud of our continued effort this season," Gentry said.
