OAK CREEK, Wis. — Milwaukee Area Technical College softball reached another historic benchmark Monday as sophomore outfielder
Mia Carani and freshman second baseman
Amira Baldon were both selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All‑Region Midwest Second Team.Â
The pair of selections carry added significance, as they represent the first NFCA All‑Region honors in program history. Carani and Baldon were two of just 12 softball players named to the NFCA All‑Region Midwest Second Team, earning the recognition after standout seasons that had already placed them on the
2026 NJCAA Division II All‑Region 4 Team. Their NFCA selections elevate that achievement even further, as the awards span a broader regional footprint and reflect voting from coaches not only across the Midwest but throughout the country.
"We are building the consistency needed for our players to not only be recognized at the regional level, but also the national level," MATC head coach Joe Kuntner said of his program's first two NFCA honorees.
Carani's sophomore campaign during the 2025-26 spring season cemented her as one of the most dominant power hitters in the Midwest. She slashed .453/.519/.755 across 48 games and ranked among Region 4's leaders in doubles, batting average, on‑base percentage and slugging percentage. Her seven home runs tied for 14th in the region, and her steady production at the top of the lineup helped drive MATC's offense throughout the spring.
Baldon, meanwhile, delivered one of the most complete freshman seasons the program has seen, showcasing rare discipline at the plate alongside true extra‑base power. She struck out only four times in 108 at‑bats while hitting .435 with a .470 on‑base percentage and piling up 47 hits, 40 RBIs, 15 doubles, five triples and seven home runs. Her production made her one of Region 4's most dangerous hitters, capped by an .861 slugging percentage that ranked fourth in the region.Â
The NFCA honors are the newest additions to MATC softball's upward climb, reinforcing the program's steady rise. The Stormers continue to build momentum, anchored by a program‑record 32 wins in 2025 and an expanding collection of regional and national accolades.
