OAK CREEK, Wis. — Milwaukee Area Technical College baseball extended its win streak to three games Monday, sweeping Bay College in a rescheduled doubleheader at the Oak Creek Campus. The Stormers improved to 16–22 overall and 9–7 at home with an 11–1 run‑rule win in six innings and a 3–1 victory in the nightcap.
The sweep was anchored by dominant pitching, as five Stormers combined to allow just six hits across 13 innings while striking out 16. MATC outhit Bay College 18–6 on the day and held the Norse scoreless in 11 of 13 innings, giving the offense room to operate in both games and setting the tone for a clean, efficient afternoon.
"Our pitchers did a really good job coming in and throwing strikes and minimizing damage throughout the whole day," MATC head coach Caleb Bounds said. "We played clean baseball and were able to walk away with two wins whenever you do that."
Game 1: MATC 11, Bay College 1 (6 inn.)
MATC's offense set the tone early in the opener, delivering one of its most complete performances of the season. The Stormers' starting lineup applied steady pressure from the start, scoring in each of the first four innings and building a comfortable lead through consistent contact and timely execution. MATC controlled every phase and closed out the game in six innings via run rule.
"This was a good team win," Bounds said. "All facets were playing really well. We didn't commit an error, we limited the walks, and we did a really good job hitting."
Making his first start of the season, Bralen Mitcham (1–0) earned the win with 3.1 sharp innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk. He carried a no‑hit bid into the fourth, retiring eight straight to open the game before surrendering a one‑out single. Mitcham handed a 7–0 lead to Vinny Cameranesi, who closed the door with 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out five.
"It felt great to earn my first win of the season," Mitcham said. "The team played great, our offense gave us plenty of run support, and I just went out and did my job by throwing strikes."
The Stormers backed their pitching immediately, scoring three runs in the first inning. An infield error plated the first run, and Easton Stewart followed with a two‑out, two‑RBI single down the left‑field line.
MATC added two more in the second, manufacturing both runs off one hit while capitalizing on a walk and two Bay College errors. In the third, Easton Morehouse doubled and scored on a Gavin Garnica RBI single, and Brady Johnson added an RBI single to make it 7–0.
Bay College broke through with three straight singles in the fourth, the last an RBI knock to cut the deficit to 7–1, but Cameranesi entered and eventually escaped a first‑and‑second, one‑out jam without further damage.
MATC answered with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 8–1.
The Stormers sealed the run‑rule finish with a three‑run sixth inning. Bugher, Tyler Lee and Morehouse opened the frame with consecutive singles to load the bases. A passed ball scored Bugher, Stewart lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Lee, and an infield throwing error on a routine toss back to the pitcher allowed the final run to score while Johnson was mid‑at‑bat, ending the game at 11–1.
Johnson went 3‑for‑3 with three singles, an RBI, a run scored and two stolen bases. Jaiden Jung added a double and scored once, while Stewart drove in a team‑high three runs and doubled with a stolen base. Morehouse chipped in two hits, including a double, and finished with an RBI and two runs scored.
Game 2: MATC 3, Bay College 1
With a lineup featuring a mix of regular starters and key reserves, MATC once again leaned on pitching depth and timely hitting to complete the sweep. The Stormers out‑hit Bay College 7–2 and received strong outings from all three pitchers that saw action.
Charlie Cefalu, making his first collegiate start and first start since high school, earned the win with three solid innings, allowing one earned run on one hit with three walks and two strikeouts. Bay College took a 1–0 lead in the first after a leadoff walk, sacrifice bunt and RBI single, but Cefalu stranded runners on first and second with a two‑out groundout to limit the damage.
"It felt really good to go a full three innings," Cefalu said. "I'm definitely tired since I haven't done that in a while. I just wanted to go out there, compete, throw strikes and do my job."
MATC answered in the bottom of the second. Tyler Lee reached on a leadoff error, and Stewart followed with an RBI triple into the gap to tie the game 1–1. Garnica then brought Stewart home with an RBI groundout to second, giving the Stormers a 2–1 lead.
From there, the pitching staff took over. Nolan Litkowiec was dominant in relief, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing one hit and striking out four without issuing a walk. Max Nottingham closed the seventh with a clean frame, striking out one to earn the save.
MATC added an insurance run in the fifth when Jung launched a solo home run to right, extending the lead to 3–1. Jung finished 2‑for‑3 with the homer, while Hayden Fellows and Stewart each added two hits. Stewart also drove in a run and scored once.
The Stormers' reserve‑heavy lineup held firm defensively and produced enough offense to back the pitching trio, securing the sweep and pushing the win streak to three.
