OAK CREEK, Wis. — Milwaukee Area Technical College halted its four‑game losing streak Sunday afternoon, earning a much‑needed home sweep of Olive‑Harvey College with 5–4 and 8–0 victories.
The Stormers edged out a tight opener, using late execution and steady relief pitching to protect a one‑run lead, then carried that momentum into Game 2, where they controlled every inning and secured a convincing shutout to close the doubleheader. MATC's offense produced timely swings throughout the day, while the pitching staff settled in and delivered its cleanest performance of the season.
"It was nice to come away with two region wins against a real solid team in Olive‑Harvey," MATC head coach
Caleb Bounds said.
Game 1: Stormers 5, Olive‑Harvey 4 (7 innings)
Milwaukee Area Technical College snapped a four‑game skid in the opener of Sunday's doubleheader, grinding out a 5–4 victory behind timely hitting and a strong finish from its bullpen.
Olive‑Harvey struck first, loading the bases in the top of the first and pushing across three runs on a pair of RBI singles to jump ahead 3–0 against MATC starter
Jakeb Lequia. The Stormers, however, quickly settled in and began chipping away.
MATC cut the deficit to one in the bottom of the second when sophomore
Lucas Hernandez turned on a 3–0 pitch and launched a two‑run homer to left, scoring
Easton Morehouse, who had singled earlier in the inning. The momentum carried into the third, where the Stormers surged ahead for good.
Back‑to‑back RBI triples from
Hayden Fellows and
Payten Jibben flipped the score to 4–3, and
Brady Johnson added an insurance run with an RBI groundout to make it 5–3.
Olive‑Harvey threatened again in the fifth, pulling within 5–4 on an RBI single, but the Stormers' bullpen shut the door from there. Sophomore right‑hander
Max Nottingham delivered two scoreless innings to earn the save, allowing just one hit while striking out two and retiring the final six hitters he faced.
"We were able to capitalize on a couple mistakes Olive‑Harvey made in Game 1," Bounds said. "Lequia had another solid outing and Max came in to shut the door. It was a great win to get back to winning."
Lequia earned the win, improving to 1–1 after working five innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits with six strikeouts and two walks. The sophomore settled in after the rocky first, holding the Panthers to a single run over his final four frames.
The victory marked MATC's first since Feb. 20 and set the tone for the rest of the afternoon as the Stormers looked to regain momentum early in the spring schedule.
Game 2: Stormers 8, Olive‑Harvey 0 (6 innings)
Milwaukee Area Technical College capped Sunday's doubleheader with its most complete performance of the young season, blanking Olive‑Harvey 8–0 behind dominant pitching and a steady, efficient offensive attack. The Stormers allowed just two hits in the eight-run victory, securing their first sweep of the 2025–26 spring season.
Right‑hander
Ethan Engelbrecht set the tone with his best outing of the year, firing six shutout innings while allowing only one hit. The sophomore struck out eight and worked around five walks, consistently overpowering hitters with late life in the zone.
Trey Jones closed the door in the seventh, recording all three outs via strikeout in a scoreless frame to finish off the combined shutout.
"We did a great job jumping out to a lead right away," Bounds said. "Engelbrecht was in complete control on the mound and gave us a stellar performance. We played clean baseball in Game 2 and were able to complete the sweep."
MATC's offense backed the pitching staff early, striking for two runs in the bottom of the first.
Carson Sieler opened the inning with a leadoff double and later scored on a fielder's choice from Fellows, who came around moments later on a steal of home to make it 2–0.
The Stormers added on in the third when
Jaiden Jung ripped an RBI double to score Sieler, who had tripled to start the inning. Jung delivered again in the fourth with an RBI single, and Fellows followed with a two‑run single to stretch the lead to 7–0.
MATC pushed across its final run in the sixth after three straight walks to Sieler, Jung and Fellows loaded the bases. Jibben drove in Sieler on a fielder's choice to make it 8–0. Jung and Fellows were a force in the heart of the lineup, combining for six RBIs.
Jung finished 2‑for‑3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, while Fellows added three RBIs on a two‑run single and a fielder's choice. Sieler sparked the offense from the top of the order, going 2‑for‑4 with a triple, a double, two walks and four runs scored.
The Stormers collected seven hits overall, including three extra‑base hits, and never allowed Olive‑Harvey to mount a serious threat thanks to airtight pitching and clean defense.
