BY THE NUMBERS: Three Defining Traits for MATC Men’s Basketball Entering the National Tournament

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - As No. 5 MATC heads further into the postseason and gears up for the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, the numbers paint a clear picture of a team built on pace, efficiency, and overwhelming control of possessions.

The Stormers enter the tournament with one of the nation's most complete statistical profiles, ranking among the NJCAA's elite in scoring, rebounding, and defensive disruption. Here's a look at the three pillars that define MATC's identity and why they will be the key factors to make a national title run.

1. An Offense That Overwhelms
Few teams in the country combine tempo and precision the way MATC does. The Stormers average 104.2 points per game, the second‑highest mark in the NJCAA, and they do it without  having to sacrifice shot quality. MATC shoots 51.6 percent from the field (5th nationally) and 38.3 percent from three (4th), numbers that reflect both elite spacing and discipline.

Their efficiency metrics further reinforce the picture as the Stormers post a 1.180 offensive efficiency rating, seventh in the nation, while ranking second in both field goals made (38.9) and field goal attempts (75.4) per game. They play fast, they play disciplined, and they convert at an elite rate that forces opponents into a scoring race they rarely win.

In a do or die tournament setting, where possessions tighten and nerves rise, MATC's ability to generate high‑percentage looks at volume becomes a clear-cut advantage.

2. Controlling the Glass
If MATC's offense is the headline, their rebounding is the foundation. The Stormers rank second nationally in total rebounds per game (47.2) and third in defensive rebounds (32.4), routinely ending possessions before opponents can generate second‑chance opportunities.

On the other end, MATC pulls down 14.8 offensive rebounds per game, good for ninth in the country. That combination fuels a +11.3 rebound margin, one of the best in the NJCAA and a key reason the Stormers are consistently able to win the possession battle.

Tournament games often hinge on extra chances, whether it be a late offensive board or a defensive stop that seals a run. MATC's rebounding profile suggests they'll enter most matchups with a built-in advantage in those areas.

3. Turnovers, Steals, and Defensive Pressure
MATC's defensive pressure is the third pillar of their identity, and it's one that often separates them from other high‑octane scoring teams. The Stormers average 11.8 steals per game, the sixth‑highest total in the nation, and force 17.2 opponent turnovers per game, ranking 13th.

That disruption fuels transition scoring and helps offset their own turnover rate, which sits at 15.7 per game. Their defensive tenacity combined with their rebounding edge, MATC consistently creates more possessions than their opponents, giving them a major reason they sit sixth nationally in net efficiency (0.246).

In a postseason environment, where momentum can swing on one defensive sequence, MATC's ability to generate steals and convert them into points becomes a lethal weapon.

The Bottom Line
MATC enters the tournament with a statistical profile built for postseason success:
  • An elite offense that scores efficiently at high volume.
  • A dominant rebounding presence that controls pace and limits opponent opportunities.
  • A disruptive defense that manufactures extra possessions and easy transition buckets.
Together, these three traits have carried the Stormers (30-3) to a 23‑game winning streak and one of the nation's most complete resumes entering the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, where MATC enters as the No. 3 seed and will open play on March 17 at 3 p.m. against the winner of No. 14 Coastal Alabama–North and No. 19 Rockland.
