Landry Ignites Stormers as MATC Blows Out Harper

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — With a personal goal of scoring 20 points, MATC sophomore forward Moriah Landry wasted no time making it happen. She erupted for 13 first‑quarter points on 6‑for‑7 shooting and finished with 23 and nine rebounds, falling just one point shy of tying a career high, as the Stormers rolled past Harper 78–42 on Tuesday to even their record at 7–7 and extend their home win streak to two games.

"My mindset coming in was to score 20 points tonight," Landry said. "I was working hard and giving 110 percent. Tonight we had to go all out and get the win. I think everybody delivered that for the most part tonight."

Playing at home for the first time since Dec. 18, the Stormers quickly shook off any post‑break rust. Landry's opening burst gave MATC all the momentum it needed. Her 13 first‑quarter points pushed the Stormers to a 22–14 lead, and the team carried that energy into the second frame, clamping down defensively and turning stops into transition chances that widened the gap before the break.

Behind Landry's 6‑for‑7 start, MATC shot 10‑for‑19 in the opening quarter and immediately seized control. The Stormers dominated the glass 13–7, with a 6–4 edge on the offensive boards, and held Harper to 35.3 percent shooting. Five forced turnovers turned into an 11–3 scoring margin, and MATC's early activity on the glass produced a 9–2 advantage in second‑chance points on the way to a 22–14 lead after one.

The game tightened in the second quarter, with Harper opening on an 11–4 surge and keeping Landry off the board for the entire frame. MATC regained control in the closing minutes, and a timely three from freshman guard Emani Summers in the final 30 seconds pushed the Stormers to a 36–27 halftime advantage.

"The first quarter was exactly what our game plan was," Murrell said. "They executed it, if I could say it, to perfection. I can't even think of something they didn't do right. Then in the second quarter we got a little lax. I think we got a little tired."

MATC turned the game into a runaway in the third quarter, ripping off a 13–3 run behind six points from Landry and a trio of layups from Summers as 14 of the Stormers' first 15 points came at the rim. They outscored Harper 22–10 in the frame, and freshman guard Sa'Nyai Mitchell delivered the exclamation point, racing upcourt and sinking a running three at the buzzer to make it 58–37 entering the fourth.

"That was crazy," Landry said of Mitchell's 3‑pointer. "I wasn't even paying attention at first. I saw the clock running down, and as I turned, Mitchell just two‑stepped into a three. I was like, 'Hey, she got it.'"

MATC closed the night with its strongest quarter, outscoring Harper 20–5 in the fourth to finish off a 78–42 victory. The Stormers dominated the paint with a 52–14 scoring advantage, controlled the glass 47–29 and posted an 18–2 margin in second‑chance points. They shot 57.1 percent from the field (32‑for‑56) and 41.7 percent from three (5‑for‑12) in one of their most efficient offensive performances of the season.

Landry finished with a game‑high 23 points on 10‑for‑14 shooting along with nine rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block. Summers added a double‑double with 15 points, 14 rebounds, one assist and one steal. Sophomore Rachel Schlies also reached double figures, scoring 11 points on 4‑for‑5 shooting to go with five rebounds and one assist. Mitchell poured in 11 points — all in the second half — along with two assists and one steal. Freshman Laila Hamiel totaled eight points and added team highs of eight assists and four steals in 32 minutes off the bench to pace the reserves.
