OGLESBY, Ill. — Milwaukee Area Technical College women's basketball used a dominant defensive stretch in the second quarter to take control Saturday afternoon, pulling away for a 75–57 road win over Illinois Valley Community College. The Stormers improved to 8–8 after holding IVCC to just four points in the second period and outscoring the Eagles 43–33 in the second half.
MATC trailed 20–16 after the first quarter but seized momentum by limiting IVCC to a pair of buckets in the second, taking a 32–24 lead into halftime. The Stormers maintained their edge throughout the second half, using an 18‑point third quarter and a 25‑point fourth to close out the road win.
"We certainly didn't want to repeat Thursday night's debacle at Triton," MATC head coach
Arom Murrell said. "We got great defensive efforts from
Rachel Schlies and
Emani Summers, who both sacrificed a bit of their offense.
Maniyah Woolridge and
Moriah Landry had huge offensive contributions as well."
The Stormers shot 43.1 percent from the field and dominated the glass with a 53–32 rebounding advantage, including a 24-11 offensive rebounding edge, while finishing with 18 assists and 13 steals. MATC also held IVCC to 35.7 percent shooting and forced 14 turnovers, turning defensive stops into easy scoring opportunities that helped stretch the lead.
Moriah Landry and
Maniyah Woolridge powered the Stormers inside the paint, each delivering a dominant double‑double that set the tone for the win. Landry finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds, four steals and four blocks in one of her most complete performances of the season. Woolridge was equally impactful off the bench, scoring 17 points on 8‑for‑12 shooting while grabbing 12 rebounds to help MATC overwhelm IVCC on the glass.
Rachel Schlies added 11 points and four steals,
Emani Summers posted eight points, 10 rebounds and three assists, and
Laila Hamiel contributed nine points and six assists.
