WAUWATOSA, Wis. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's tennis team continued its monumental 2025–26 campaign Sunday, defeating last year's Region 4 champions, Moraine Valley, 5-4 at Wauwatosa West High School. The narrow victory marked the Stormers' first-ever win over the Cyclones and improved their record to 5-2 — the best start in program history.
"I'm very excited for the ladies to be able to continue our winning streak," MATC head coach
Mark Picard said. "It's special to get a win over last year's regional champion. This just shows that the hard work in practice is paying off and I look forward to seeing the team continue to improve."
In a matchup between two evenly matched teams, the Stormers set the tone early by securing two doubles wins.
Reese Thao and
Kamilla Mamedova dominated No. 1 doubles with an 8-1 victory, while
Aisha Kaabachi and Ali Suchanek pulled out an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
MATC carried its momentum into singles play, claiming victories at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 singles. At No. 1, Thao dug deep for a 6-1, 6-4 win, prevailing in both a 10-deuce and an 8-deuce game. Mamedova cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2, while Suchanek battled for a hard-fought three-set victory (6-4, 3-6, 10-7) at No. 4.
