LAKE VILLA, Ill. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's tennis team capped its historic 2025-26 regular season campaign with a hard-fought 5-4 victory over College of Lake County on Sunday afternoon. The one-point win marked the Stormers' sixth straight victory and secured a 6-2 overall record, which marked the best regular-season finish in program history.
"I'm very proud of how the team played against a good, but shorthanded CLC team," MATC head coach
Mark Picard said. "The ladies have worked hard in practice from the beginning, and that work has shown in the results. Now the Stormers need to back up a strong regular season with solid play in the regional tournament. We have the chance to do something special that could have a positive effect on our program for many years."
A key factor in edging the Lancers came from MATC's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams.
Aisha Kaabachi and
Alexandra Suchanek cruised to a dominant 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles, while
Ellea Gleesing and
Natalie Schroeder earned a 2-0 victory via forfeit at No. 3.
Reese Thao and
Kamilla Mamedova fell 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
In singles play, the Stormers picked up wins at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, along with another forfeit victory from Schroeder at No. 6. Kaabachi defeated Daniel Gatta 6-2, 6-3 in straight sets at No. 3 singles, and Suchanek matched that scoreline with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Melanie Garcia at No. 4.
Despite strong efforts, Thao, Mamedova and Gleesing dropped their respective singles matches, but the Stormers' early doubles success and depth in the lineup proved enough to seal the team win.
