RIVER GROVE, Ill. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season Wednesday, claiming a 5-1 road victory over Triton College as the Stormers erupted for four second-half goals.
"I'm incredibly proud of the team and their performance," MATC head coach Aron "Buddy" Gentry said. "It was a historic win, the first of the season for the women and the first-ever win against Triton."
In the first half, both teams battled for control, but the Stormers took a 1-0 lead into halftime on an PK goal by
Katelyn Haeft in the 26th minute.
MATC extended its lead with a flurry of goals midway through the second half. Freshman forward
Keegan Grace Boyd broke things open with a goal off an assist by
Vanessa Reyes in the 54th minute. Eight minutes later, freshman forward
Gracie New scored off another assist by Reyes, and sophomore teammate
Lia Peterson added another goal off an assist by Haeft in the 64th minute. With a 4-0 advantage, freshman goalkeeper
Caroline Buczynski allowed Triton's Michelle Arroyo to score off an assist from Nancy Mosso in the 82nd minute, keeping the Stormers from earning a clean sheet. In the waning minutes, Peterson notched her second goal of the evening off a crisp pass from Haeft with three minutes remaining to seal the four-goal road win. Buczynski finished with two saves.

MATC (1-0-1) will take some time off to regroup before hosting Kankakee Community College at 2 p.m. Sept. 17.
