Stormers Baseball Bows out of Region 4 Tournament, Ends Postseason Journey

ELGIN, Ill. – Milwaukee Tech baseball had its 2024-25 spring season come to an end after they were eliminated from the 2025 NJCAA Region 4 Division II Baseball Tournament this past weekend.

Competing in a winner-take-all three-team sectional with Moraine Valley and hosting Elgin, MATC needed to best the Spartans in back-to-back efforts on Saturday in order to keep its postseason hopes alive. Unfortunately, the Stormers were unsuccessful in their efforts against Elgin as they fell 10-2 in eight innings to effectively end their season with a record of 35 wins and 23 losses.

"It was a great season," MATC head coach Caleb Bounds said. "The boys did an awesome job competing this year and I'm super proud of this team. They have created a winning culture and made the standard for MATC baseball really high!

"Of course it isn't how we wanted the season to end, but the boys can hold their heads high knowing they made history this year," Bounds added. "I'm excited to see the sophomores move on and be successful in their next journey and the freshmen coming back know what it takes to get back to this point and go even further next year."

According to MATC's database dating back to 2000, the Stormers' 35-23 overall finish this season marked the best single-season record within the program since the turn of the century.

Elgin 10, Stormers 2 (8 Innings)
  • Ryan Quello barreled a two-out RBI single in the top of the second to put MATC ahead 1-0
  • Carlito Collins stole home in the second to extend the Stormers' lead to 2-0
  • MATC starter Jake Catalano allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits over four innings, striking out four and walking a pair in a losing effort on the mound
  • Elgin scored once in the second (RBI single) and once in the third (RBI sac-fly) to tie the game at two runs apiece
  • The Spartans regained a 3-2 lead off an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fourth
  • Elgin sparked a five-run seventh-inning off five hits that were aided by two walks and a sac-fly
  • Cole Wissen went 2-for-3 with two singles and one run scored to pace the Stormers' offense
  • Marc Falletti and Quello each had one hit apiece
  • Max Mueller tossed two innings of relief, giving up three runs on six hits with one strikeout
  • Ethan Engelbrecht, Justin Schnell, and Josh Barndt each saw relief action on the bump
