OCONOMOWOC, Wis. – MATC baseball took care of business on the road Tuesday by besting Bryant & Stratton, 10-4, at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park.
The Stormers jumped out to a 5-0 lead through four innings before taking the six-run victory to improve their record to 20-14 and 9-7 on the road.
"That was a big win for us," MATC baseball coach
Caleb Bounds said. "Bryant & Stratton is a solid team and it's always a good day when you get a win. Josh Bardnt did a great job limiting the damage throughout the game. The hitters took advantage of a few mistakes Bryant & Stratton made and got us in a really good spot early in the game. "We have been doing a great job jumping out to leads early," Bounds added.
"We just have to keep doing that and finish games."
MATC broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the first thanks to a defensive error by the Bobcats, which helped lead to a two-out two-RBI double by
Cole Wissen. Back-to-Back leadoff hit-by-pitches to
Camdin Jansen and
Marco Falletti in the third led to another two-run inning for the Stormers after
Cole Wissen drove in Jansen and Falletti on a two-RBI double to extend the lead to 4-0. Wissen eventually reached third on a groundout by
Robert Crawford III before later scoring on a steal home to give the Stormers a 5-0 lead through three innings.
Stormers' starter
Josh Barndt scattered seven hits over six innings, but only limited the damage to one earned run while striking out five to keep his squad in control early on. His efforts helped him earn the win to improve to 2-2 on the mound this season.
MATC extended its lead to 7-0 in the fourth off an RBI single by Jansen and another defensive error that saw Jansen score on a ground ball hit by Falletti. Bryant & Stratton would go on to outscore MATC 4-3 over the final four innings.
Wissen provided most of the pop offensively for the Stormers at the plate, totaling two doubles for a team-high four RBIs. Reliever Patrick Wadja picked up the save, tossing three innings and allowing three earned runs on four hits with five punchouts.
