JOLIET, Ill. – The Milwaukee Area Technical College softball team split a road doubleheader against Joliet Junior College Friday.
In Game 1, leadoff hitter
Sophia Hansen had a career day, totaling a team-high six RBIs on five hits, most notably a three-run blast in the seventh to help aid the Stormers to a 15-10 road victory. MATC totaled 20 hits, including seven hits in a six-run first-inning that saw the Stormers jump out to a 6-0 lead before coasting to a five-run win.
Outside of Hansen's big day at the plate, the Stormers got multi-hit efforts from
Ava Marx,
Jayden Moss,
Celia May and Jordan Hansred. Marx drove in four runs on three hits, including two homers. Moss finished with one double, two singles and one RBI. May tallied three singles, two RBIs and one double. Hansred went 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Hanserd also picked up the win on the mound in a complete-game effort, giving up 10 runs (six earned) on 10 hits while striking out five.
"
Taylor Wilson and
Rylyn Paulick had some key bunts to put runners in scoring position, which led to some of our big innings in Game 1," MATC head coach Joe Kuntner said. "A lot of times we forget those people. They don't always get in the headlines because they bunt somebody over, but if it isn't for us executing some of our small ball, we don't get that victory."
In Game 2, MATC held a commanding 10-3 lead through five before surrendering a 10-run sixth-inning to JJC that left the Stormers to eventually fall 13-10 in seven innings.
Zoey Murph went 2-for-4 with a two-run blast to help pace the Stormers in defeat.
Celia May added three hits and two runs scored.
Jayden Moss had three hits, two RBIs and two runs.
Nevaeh Folk took the loss, allowing eight runs (three earned) on six hits over 1 and ⅔ innings.
