SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. — The Milwaukee Area Technical College softball team set a new program record by earning the most wins (30) in a single-season in school history after earning a series split on the road against South Suburban Sunday.
The Stormers, who entered Sunday's contest one-win shy of 30 wins, took a 11-1 defeat in five innings before storming back to claim a 10-4 victory in seven innings during Game 2 to earn a split. "In Game 1, South Suburban continued to catch barrels and drive balls into the gaps and so we weren't able to make any adjustments offensively," MATC head coach Joe Kuntner said.
"In Game 2, South Suburban just got done celebrating their sophomore day and our goal was to achieve a split to get 30 wins in a season, which is the highest win total in MATC softball history. We achieved that goal."
As a result of earning the series split, MATC concluded the 2024-25 regular season with a 30-22 overall record, including a 26-17 record in Region 4 play.
"When we set our schedule, our goal was to play as many Region 4 teams as possible," Kuntner said. "We challenged our team and went out and played a tough non-conference schedule to begin the 2024-25 season. We made some adjustments in the batting order and defensively, and our team learned from their mistakes. From that moment on, we came together and achieved our goals, but we are not done yet. I am happy for our players and assistant coaches for all their hard work that we've put in since August of 2024."
