GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – MATC baseball was well on their way to earning a road doubleheader split with College of DuPage Thursday before Game 2 got suspended due to rain.
After taking a 7-5 defeat in the opener, Game 2 was suspended in the top of the fifth, where the Stormers held an 8-4 lead. This game will resume action at 3 p.m. Wednesday (Apr. 23) at COD. The game will resume with bases-loaded and no-outs with a 1-0 count to Stormers'
Carlito Collins.
"Game 2 was a solid start," MATC head coach
Caleb Bounds said. "It was unfortunate we could get one more inning in, but we will head back Wednesday to finish the game. We just have to come out ready to go and finish the job for Game 2."
Game 1: DuPage 7, Stormers 5
- MATC took the loss despite out-hitting DuPage 11-6
- Leonardo Zerillo recorded an RBI single in the top of the second to help the Stormers tie the game 1-1 DuPage recorded back-to-back RBI hits in the third to extend its lead to 4-1
- An RBI walk to Bryant Armijo-Martin and an RBI groundout from Easton Morehouse in the fourth helped cut the Stormers' deficit to 4-3
- Camdin Jansin hit a two-run inside-the-park homer in the sixth to give MATC its first lead, 5-4
- MATC bullpen gave up four walks in the sixth, helping aid a three-run inning by the Chaps to regain control leading 7-5
- Cole Wissen, Marco Falletti, Zerillo, Jansen, and Collins each had two hits apiece to pace the Stormers' offense
- MATC starter Luke Klekamp tossed five innings, giving up five runs on four hits while striking out seven and walking four
- Ethan Engelbrecht took the loss in relief, allowing two runs on two hits over ⅔ innings, striking out zero and walking three

MATC (25-17) will host Madison College next Tuesday for a home doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
