SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Stormers earned their fourth doubleheader split of the season after splitting a pair of road contests against Oakton Thursday.
MATC made quick work of the Owls by the tune of a 9-2 final in Game 1 with the help of another solid outing from its ace Max Merline.
"The bats finally got going and it was a great sign," MATC head coach
Caleb Bounds said of his team's opening victory. "Merline did what Merline does [on the mound], and that's to compete for six innings and he gave us another quality start."
In Game 2, the Stormers couldn't overcome a six-run second-inning explosion by the Lancers, leaving them to fall, 8-7. With another series split, MATC moved to 12-14 on the season and 5-6 on the road.
"We just can't give up such a big inning in the second," Bounds said. "The bullpen did an amazing job coming in and keeping Oakton at bay. The offense did a great job of getting us back into the game. I was proud of the way we fought and I am excited to get back going again on Sunday against Elgin."
