OAK CREEK, Wis. – MATC earned a pair of decisive home victories Friday afternoon against visiting McHenry College, winning in comeback fashion during the opener and then by mercy-rule.
In the first game, MATC sparked a six-run sixth-inning to help formulate a 12-8 comeback victory. The Stormers then carried the momentum from their four-run win into their second game, where they went on to claim a 13-1 victory in five innings to help complete the sweep. The pair of wins helped MATC extend its win streak to four games while also improving themselves to 7-8 and 4-2 at home.
"The strong winds played havoc with our pitching and fielding," Stormers head softball coach Joe Kuntner said of his team's doubleheader sweep over McHenry. "Lilly Dorado had a big bases-loaded clearing double off the fence in Game 1 that rallied the team for our comeback win, which then also helped wake up our bats in the second game."
Game 1: Stormers 12, McHenry 8 (7 innings)
- Both teams scored three runs in the first before McHenry took a 7-3 lead off a four-run fourth-inning capped by five hits
- Lily Dorado smacked a huge three-RBI double in the fifth to cut the Stormers' deficit to 7-6
- McHenry plated a run off an drawn walk with the bases loaded in the sixth
- Stormers scored six runs on four hits and four drawn walks in the sixth to take a 12-8 lead
- Ava Marx capped off the sixth with a two-RBI double
- Dorado drove in a team-high six runs on three hits, including a bases-clearing double
- Jayden Moss had one double and a run scored while teammate Sophia Hansen recorded the teams' only stolen base
- MATC starter Eleanor Henschel hurled five innings, giving up seven runs on 11 hits while striking out nine
- Rylyn Paulick tossed two scoreless inning of relief action
Game 2: Stormers 13, McHenry 1 (5 innings)
After taking a 5-0 lead in the first, MATC scored eight runs on four hits and sent 12 to the plate in the second
The Stormers capitalized on two defensive errors (scoring three runs) and four walks (scoring one run) from McHenry's pitchers in the second
Aniesa Neave contributed a two-run single in the second
Ava Marx blasted a three-run homer in the first, which was quickly followed by a two-run double from
Mia Carani three batters later
Neveah Folk threw 5 innings and earned the win with a pair of strikeouts
Carani led the Stormers' offense with four RBIs
