EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's basketball team did their best to hang with Illinois Central last Saturday, but a huge third-quarter run by the Cougars' was all the home team needed to hand the Stormers a 83-50 road defeat.
MATC shot 32.3 percent (10-of-31) from the field throughout the first half, which left them trailing 36-23 at halftime. Down double-digits coming out of the break, MATC allowed Illinois Central to open the third quarter on a 16-8 run over the first six minutes of action that evidently put the game out of reach with the home team up 21 points midway through the third.
Illinois Central's offense seemingly couldn't miss in the third quarter as they shot 70 percent (12-of-17) from the field, going 2-for-5 from deep in the process. In comparison, MATC ended the third quarter shooting 37 percent (6-for-16) from the field and zero percent from beyond the arc (0-for-1).
The Stormers proved to be outdone at the hands of the Cougars. Collectively, MATC was outmatched in rebounding (48-35), assists (24-9), turnovers (16-9), paint points (40-22), and second chance points (16-6). They also only connected on three of a dozen free throw attempts (25 percent).
The second straight road loss moves MATC to 7-14 overall and 4-10 on the road.

Makayla Carney added nine points, seven rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Freshman
Arlinda Roundtree contributed eight points, seven rebounds and one assist. Freshman
Chloey Bynum chipped in five points and three rebounds.
