Stormers Unable to Keep up With Rock Valley

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's basketball team had trouble keeping Rock Valley off the 3-point line during its 90-58 road loss Thursday evening.

The Golden Eagles drained 15-of-44 attempts from beyond the arc en route to earning a double-digit home victory that moved the Stormers to 9-20 and 5-12 on the road.

"Rock Valley was focused and poised in securing the No. 1 seed heading into postseason play," MATC head coach Arom Murrell said. We just could not meet the moment. They outplayed us in every facet of the game."

From the opening tip-off, the Stormers had trouble guarding Rock Valley's Amadea Montijo, who scored a game-high 31 points on 11-for-17 shooting from the field (64.7 percent). Montijo poured in 18 first-half points, including nine in the second quarter that helped her team outscore the Stormers 29-12.

Despite taking a 50-27 deficit into halftime, MATC kept pushing. They limited the Golden Eagles to 28.6 percent shooting in the third, which in turn allowed them to trim their 23-point deficit by seven points heading into the fourth. Sophomore Mary-Kate Louissaint finished the third quarter perfect, going 3-for-3 with seven points. Sophomore Alexis Ayers and freshman Makayla Carney each followed closely behind Louissaint with six points apiece in the third.

With the game seemingly out of reach, trailing 68-52, the Stormers were held to just two made field goals throughout the final 10 minutes of action.

STAT BOOK
Louissaint recorded a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds (6 offensive) on 50 percent shooting (5-for-10) to pace the Stormers.
