PALATINE, Ill.  – Powered by its suffocating defense that held Harper College to just 19 percent shooting from the field (12-for-63), the Milwaukee Area Technical College women's basketball team managed to claim a convincing 55-27 road victory Saturday over the Hawks.

The 28-point win afforded MATC to improve to 9-18 and 5-11 on the road.

"Our defense was key," Stormers head coach Arom Murrell said. "We limited them to one shot and we were able to get out in transition. That was really the recipe for success on Saturday."

MATC took charge from the opening tip-off. The Stormers took a 17-6 lead into the second quarter before being able to extend their lead to 18 points by halftime.

Up 34-16 to begin the second half, both teams struggled to make baskets in the third quarter as the two squads totaled just 12 combined points. The offensive struggles by both teams left the Stormers to take a 41-21 lead into the fourth, where they were able to coast to its fifth road win of the season in dominant fashion.

As a team, MATC shot 30.7 percent (23-for-75), including a 25 percent mark from deep (6-for-24). They also outrebounded (46-40) the Hawks while totaling less turnovers (8-15).

Freshman Arlinda Roundtree led the Stormers with 21 points, nine rebounds, two assists and one block. Freshman Kamille Mayshack recorded a double-double with 10 points, 14 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Sophomore Alexis Ayers contributed 12 points, 7 assists, six rebounds, two steals and one block. Freshman Chleoy Bynum chipped in eight pints.
