MALTA, Ill. – It may have not been pretty, but the Milwaukee Area Technical College women's basketball team managed to pick up its fourth road win of the season on Saturday against Kishwaukee College.
The Stormers, who entered the contest with just five healthy players and zero bench, overcame being forced to play the final 4:56 of regulation against the Kougars with just four players after freshman
Kamille Mayshack fouled out. Despite being short-handed late in the game, MATC picked up a 56-47 win to move to 7-12 and 4-8 on the road.
Saturday's key to victory came from the fact that the Stormers were able to avoid another slow start. Instead of falling behind early, MATC took a 11-7 lead into the second quarter before going on to extend its lead to 27-15 by halftime.
After the brief intermission, the Stormers were able to continue building off the momentum created in the first half by extending their lead to 47-30 after three quarters of action. The 17-point lead proved to be enough cushion for MATC to avoid a late-game comeback attempt by Kishwaukee after being forced to end the game with only four players.
As a team, MATC shot 24 percent (18-of-75) from the field and 23.5 percent from three (4-of-17). They also outrebounded the Kougars 70-48 in large part due to an eye-popping 27 rebounds by freshman
Mary-Kate Louissaint.
