ESCANABA, Mich. — In a game that saw 11 ties and 10 lead changes it was the Milwaukee Area Technical College women's basketball team that found themselves on the right side of a 61-58 victory against North Central Michigan College on Dec. 13 during the Terrace Bay Hotel Holiday Classic.
Led by freshman
Chloey Bynum's six points over the final two minutes, the Stormers were able to squeak out a tight win in large part due to their late game defense.
Tied 55-55 with 2:21 remaining, MATC held the Timberwolves to 16.7 percent (1-of-6) shooting from the field over the final 141 seconds.
Clinging onto a 59-58 lead with two seconds remaining, the Stormers' defense forced a huge missed 3-pointer by North Central Michigan's Ceara LeBlanc to seal the win.
Along with the clutch defense late, the Stormers relied heavily on Bynum's shotmaking. Over the final two minutes, Bynum went nearly perfect from the free throw line, totaling four points on 4-of-5 attempts. Bynum's ability to be clutch at the line proved pivotal given that MATC struggled all evening from the free throw line, shooting just 44.8 percent on 13-of-29 attempts from the stripe.
As a collective unit, the Stormers totalled 42 rebounds, 32 paint points, 16 points off turnovers and 13 second chance points.
