DES PLAINES, Ill. – All season long the Milwaukee Area Technical College women's basketball team has struggled to come away with victories while playing on the road.
Having won just three of 11 road matchups entering Wednesday's road contest against Oakton, the Stormers' struggles away from Milwaukee seemed to continue when they were handed a 82-66 road defeat by the Owls.
MATC, who dropped to 4-9 and 3-7 on the road, fell behind 17-14 after the first quarter of action and never seemed to fully recover despite a valiant effort to begin the second half. They trailed 39-29 at halftime before managing to cut their deficit to single-digits heading into the fourth quarter thanks to solid play from its starters –
Alexis Ayers,
Heaven Cooper,
Chloey Bynum,
Arlinda Roundtree, and
Makayla Carney – immediately following the brief intermission.
Facing a 10-point deficit to begin the second half, MATC managed to outscore Oakton 24-19 in the third to position themselves to get within two possessions entering the final quarter. With a chance to earn a come-from-behind victory on the line, the Stormers' offense went completely cold over the final 10 minutes.
MATC only scored 13 points over the last quarter. It left the Owls to completely dominate the final quarter and outscore the Stormers 24-13 over the final 10 minutes, which resulted in Oakton taking the 16-point win.
