MATC Unable to Hold on to 16-Point Lead in the Second Half Against Elgin

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Early into the third quarter Thursday against Elgin, Milwaukee Area Technical College women's basketball team had its opponent on the ropes clinging to a 16-point lead with 8:12 remaining.

At that point into the second half, all signs were pointing to the Stormers' third win of the season. However, poor execution over the final 18 minutes allowed the Spartans to erase their deficit and walk away with a 61-54 victory.

The seven-point road loss left MATC to fall to 2-5 on the season and 2-4 on the road. Neither team found much success against their opposing defenses. Both teams struggled from the floor as neither squad managed to shoot above 30-percent from the field. MATC shot 29.5 percent (23-of-78) and Elgin shot 27.7 percent (18-of-65) by comparison.

MATC Freshman Makayla Carney recorded a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 20 rebounds, including seven offensive rebounds. She also contributed three steals and one block.

Sophomore Alexis Ayers led the Stormers in scoring, totaling 15 points to go along with three steals. Freshmen Alrinda Roundtree and Mia Sallinen each scored eight points apiece.
