Turnovers Doom MATC Women

The Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers women's basketball team hung in the game against the Madison College Wolfpack, despite being short two starters. The Stormers turned the ball over 49 times, however, and lost, 66-59, in the Reiman Gymnasium at Alverno College on Saturday.

MATC was playing without leading scorer Demetria Watson (17.1 PPG) and leading rebounder Jasmine Gray (9.6 RPG) but managed to stay close to Madison College for much of the game.

The Wolfpack led by nine points at the half, largely due to their three-point shooting (44.4%) and the Stormers propensity to turn the ball over. The Wolfpack outscored the Stormers 30-10 in points off turnovers in the first half.

Madison College extended their lead to 17 points early in the second half due to a 10-2 run. The Stormers never gave up, however, and pulled to within one possession late in the game, eventually falling, 66-59.

The Stormers actually shot better than Madison College, hitting on 42% of their attempts to the Wolfpack's, 31% but the Wolfpack managed to fire off 18 more shots in the game.

Courtney Spangler led all scorers with 19 points for Madison College. Chelsey Schulenburg added 13 points and Ellyn Hayden had ten points and nine rebounds.

Tori Sykes paced the Stormers with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Emerald Kidd recorded a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds and Hadeel Abujaber had ten points.
