MATC Women stand tall against top-ranked Rock Valley College

The Milwaukee Area Technical College women's basketball team was hoping to do something they hadn't accomplished in four years, win three straight games. Already having surpassed their win total from the past two seasons combined, the Stormer women are starting to build a solid base under first year coach Jeff Lorenz. Unfortunately, the defending national champions and current top-ranked team in the country stood in their way at the Reiman Gymnasium Wednesday night.

Rock Valley College proved to be too much for MATC as the Stormers fell 82-41. MATC hung in early, but the Golden Eagles showed why they were the top team in the country about midway through the first half as they began to pull away from MATC. The Golden Eagles led the Stormers, 40-16 at the half.

MATC just couldn't find an answer for Revonnia Howard. The 6-foot, 2-inch sophomore center had a double-double at the half with 13 points and 10 rebounds. She got in foul trouble in the second half and finished the game with 22 points and 18 rebounds.

Keshawnee Alley also recorded a double-double for Rock Valley College with 13 points and 11 rebounds. TaRicka Linzy added another 16 points for the Golden Eagles.

MATC was led by Tori Sykes and Jasmine Gray who both had 12 points in the game. Ten of Sykes points came in the second half and she also had eight boards. The Stormers troubles at the free throw line continued as they hit on just 8 of 21 free throws. MATC shot 26% from the field and 27% from behind the three-point line. Meanwhile, Rock Valley College only got to the charity stripe six times, making four. The Golden Eagles shot 44% in the game.
