SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. — Milwaukee Area Technical College women's soccer suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday afternoon, falling 6-0 on the road to No. 16 South Suburban College.
The loss dropped the Stormers to 3-1-1 overall and snapped a four-match shutout streak.
"Difficult game tonight," MATC head coach Aaron "Buddy" Gentry said. "The women lost, but they worked extremely hard from the beginning against a nationally ranked team. They never backed down and gave it everything they had the entire time. Definitely a lot of good things to build on for the next one!"
MATC entered the match unbeaten and had not allowed a goal in its previous four contests. South Suburban broke through in the 20th minute and scored again five minutes later to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs added four goals in the second half, scoring in the 70th, 73rd, 76th and 84th minutes.
South Suburban kept the offensive pressure on throughout the match, finishing with a 41-0 advantage in shots and a 25-0 edge in shots on goal. Sophomore standout goalkeeper
Caroline Buczynski recorded 14 saves for MATC.
The Stormers were unable to generate a shot attempt against the nationally ranked Bulldogs. South Suburban converted six of its 25 shots on goal, with two of the goals coming off assists.
Despite the loss, MATC remains above .500 at 3-1-1 and will look to bounce back as it enters the second half of the regular season.
