MATC blanks Waubonsee behind Reyes and Buzynski

SUGAR GROVE, Ill. — Vanessa Reyes didn't just score. She took command of the afternoon. The sophomore forward struck twice in a 2–0 win at Waubonsee, driving MATC to a perfect 3–0 start and keeping the Stormers' goal untouched for a third straight match to open the 2026 campaign. Through three matches, MATC has yet to concede this season, outscoring opponents 8–0 and playing with the confidence of a team that knows exactly who its difference‑makers are.

"Our women's soccer team extended their winning streak to three games with a team performance," Stormers head coach Aaron "Buddy" Gentry said. "Every player contributed to this victory. While it was a true collective effort, some individual ability helped seal the win. Vanessa Reyes showcased incredible versatility for the squad, scoring from multiple positions as well as playing some minutes on the defensive line."

Reyes opened the scoring in the seventh minute, finishing a setup from sophomore midfielder Yocelin Valdez‑Galindo to give MATC early control. She struck again in the 78th minute, burying a feed from sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Buzynski to secure her brace and put the match out of reach.

Buzynski delivered another standout performance in net, totaling 10 saves to earn her third straight clean sheet.

Both teams generated chances, finishing with 14 total shots and 10 shots on goal apiece, but MATC converted twice while Waubonsee was denied on every attempt. The Stormers also held a slight edge in set pieces, earning four corner kicks to Waubonsee's three.

"Defensively, the entire unit was impenetrable," Gentry said. "The backline worked together to lock down the Chiefs' attack, our midfield worked in perfect harmony to limit chances, and our goalkeeper anchored the defense to earn the shutout — even sparking the attack with a brilliant ball to pick up a rare goalkeeper assist."
