OAK CREEK, Wis. – MATC saw its four‑game win streak come to an end Tuesday, falling 6–3 and 3–1 to Bryant & Stratton in a weather‑shifted doubleheader played at the Oak Creek Campus. The sweep dropped the Stormers to 12–23 overall, as defensive miscues in Game 1 and limited offensive production in Game 2 proved costly.
Despite solid pitching throughout the afternoon, MATC struggled to generate consistent pressure at the plate, managing just four total runs across the two games. The Stormers committed six errors in the opener and were held to a single run in the nightcap, unable to capitalize on multiple opportunities.
"Our pitchers looked great and refreshed," MATC head coach Joe Kuntner said of being swept. "We just didn't create enough noise offensively to secure a victory."
Editor's Note: Due to heavy overnight rain on Monday, Tuesday's doubleheader against Bryant & Stratton was moved to MATC's home field in Oak Creek. Although the games were played at MATC, they were officially designated as road contests for the Stormers. Bryant & Stratton provided the umpires and athletic trainer as the host institution.
Game 1: Bryant & Stratton 6, Stormers 3
MATC struck early but could not overcome a string of defensive miscues, committing six errors in a 6–3 loss in the opener. Starter
Maiya Tearney went 5.0 innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits with four walks and one strikeout to take the loss.
Jordan Hanserd followed with a clean sixth, giving up one hit and no walks.
Bryant & Stratton opened the scoring with a run in the first, using a leadoff single, sacrifice bunt and two‑out RBI single to take a 1–0 lead. MATC responded immediately with a three‑run second inning. Tearney led off with a single,
Emma Roeper drew a walk, and
Zoey Murph lined an RBI single to tie the game 1–1. After
Lily Dorado executed a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position,
Caia Lund delivered a two‑RBI triple to right‑center for a 3–1 advantage.
The Stormers' offense stalled from there, going six up, six down in the third and fourth innings and managing only a walk in both the fifth and sixth. MATC's best late chance came in the seventh, when Lund reached on an infield error and
Mia Carani singled with two outs, but a foul‑territory lineout ended the game with runners on first and second.
Bryant & Stratton chipped away immediately after MATC's big inning, scoring once in the second thanks to the help of two MATC errors that cut it to 3–2. The Bobcats then took control with a three‑run third, highlighted by a two‑RBI double and a sacrifice fly to make it 5–3. Another run scored in the fourth when a leadoff triple came home on an error, extending the lead to 6–3.
Lund went 1‑for‑3 with a two‑RBI triple to pace the Stormers' offense. Roeper drew two walks and scored a run, while Carani,
Jayden Moss and Tearney each added singles, with Tearney also scoring once. Murph finished 1‑for‑2 with an RBI single and a run scored.
Game 2: Bryant & Stratton 3, Stormers 1
MATC received another strong pitching effort in the nightcap but again struggled to generate timely offense, falling 3–1 despite holding Bryant & Stratton to just three earned runs on five total hits.
Starter
Ellie Brzek took the loss, working 4.1 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits with three walks and one strikeout.
Chloe Lago was sharp in relief, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings while giving up three hits and one walk.
Offensively, MATC managed only five hits and was held without a run until the fifth. The Stormers opened the game by going eight up, eight down before Kenzie Herther reached on a two‑out walk in the third. MATC didn't record its first hit until
Alyssa Pavlovich's leadoff single in the fourth, followed by another single, but three straight outs ended the threat.
Down 2–0 in the fifth, Tearney sparked MATC's lone scoring inning with a leadoff single.
Emily Pujanauski followed with a double to put runners on second and third, and Tearney scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 2–1. The Stormers, however, stranded the tying run at third after three consecutive outs.
MATC threatened again in the sixth when Carani ripped a leadoff double, but three straight outs left her stranded. The Stormers went quietly in the seventh, going three up, three down.
Bryant & Stratton broke a scoreless tie in the third with a leadoff single, sacrifice bunt and RBI groundout. Another leadoff single in the fourth led to a run scoring on a passed ball to make it 2–0. The Bobcats added their final run in the fifth on an RBI single, pushing the lead to 3–1.
