Stormers Stumble on the Road, Swept in Six-Inning Losses at Black Hawk

MOLINE, Ill. — Coming off the momentum of Wednesday's home split against Triton, MATC couldn't extend that surge on the road Saturday, falling 8–0 and 9–1 in a pair of six‑inning mercy‑rule losses at Black Hawk. The setback dropped the Stormers to 5–13 overall and 0–4 on the road.

Black Hawk controlled the opener from the start, out‑hitting MATC 16–3 and steadily pulling away across the middle innings. The Stormers struggled again in Game 2, committing six defensive errors and falling behind 4–0 in the first inning before the Braves used timely hitting and extended innings to complete the sweep in another six‑inning decision.

"Unfortunately we had a breakdown of fundamentals during our road trip against Black Hawk," MATC head coach Joe Kuntner said.

Game 1: Black Hawk 8, MATC 0 (6 innings)
MATC struggled to generate offense in the opener, managing just three hits and going down in order in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings in an 8–0 six‑inning loss at Black Hawk.

The Stormers' best early chance came in the top of the second when Amira Baldon led off with a single, but MATC couldn't move her around. The offense didn't threaten again until the sixth, when Jayden Moss opened the inning with a single and Emma Roeper followed with another to put runners on second and third with one out. The rally ended abruptly when Mia Carani lined out to shortstop, and Roeper was doubled off second to end the inning.

Black Hawk steadily built its lead, starting with two runs in the second on three singles aided by an error and a fielder's choice. The Braves added another run in the fourth on back‑to‑back singles to make it 3–0, then broke the game open in the fifth when their first five hitters reached, producing a three‑run triple and an RBI double to push the margin to 7–0.

Three singles loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth before a double ended the game via the mercy rule.

MATC was out‑hit 16–3 and committed one defensive error in the loss.

Game 2: Black Hawk 9, MATC 1 (6 innings)
MATC struggled defensively in the second game, committing six errors and managing just two hits in a 9–1 six‑inning loss that completed the sweep at Black Hawk.

The Stormers fell behind immediately as three defensive errors, a walk and two hits in the bottom of the first allowed the Braves to jump out to a 4–0 lead. MATC's offense went down in order in each of the first three innings before Emma Roeper broke up the no‑hit bid with a leadoff single in the fourth. Kenzie Herther followed with a walk to put two on with no outs, but three straight outs ended the threat.

Black Hawk extended its lead in the third, using two hits and another error to push across three runs and make it 7–0. MATC got on the board in the fifth when Alyssa Pavlovich singled, advanced to third and scored on an RBI lineout to left by Emily Pujanauski, cutting the deficit to 7–1.

The Braves added the final two runs in the sixth off reliever Ellie Brzek, who worked 2.1 innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and one walk.

Starter Jordan Hansred took the loss, allowing seven runs (two earned) on five hits, one walk and one strikeout.

Pavlovich and Roeper each recorded a single to pace the Stormers, while Pujanauski drove in the lone run.
