No. 12 Stormers Roll Harper for Seventh Straight Win

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — After a near two‑week layoff for the holiday break, No. 12 MATC returned in peak form Wednesday night, never trailing and racing out to a 22–7 lead on the way to a dominant 128–93 home win over Harper. The Stormers improved to 14–3 and stretched their win streak to seven games behind a 74–41 halftime surge powered by 58.7 percent shooting and a blistering 20‑point first half from sophomore Jayden Hackett, who went 9‑for‑11 from the field and 2‑for‑3 from deep.

MATC seized control immediately, jumping out to a 20–7 lead with 15 minutes left in the first half behind eight early points from Hackett and five from starting sophomore guard Jordan Jones. The Stormers pushed the pace from the opening tip and showed no signs of rust after the two‑week holiday layoff, overwhelming Harper with tempo, depth and ball movement.

The Stormers continued to separate after building a 41–20 lead midway through the half, ripping off a 19–6 run to break the game open and stretch the margin to 74–41 at the break. MATC also held a 21–9 edge from beyond the arc in the opening half, fueled by a pair of threes each from Qi'Andre Washington, Noah Daniels and Hackett as the perimeter shooting matched the pace and efficiency.

"The first half we played great, especially after being off for so long," head coach Randy Casey said. "It was good to see how well we shot it after the break."

MATC flirted with the program's single‑game scoring record of 140 points — also set against Harper in January 2020 — as the lead ballooned to 111–65 late in the second half, but extended minutes for the reserves kept the Stormers from threatening the mark.

MATC still closed out a 128–93 victory behind 45.7 percent shooting after halftime and a balanced attack that produced seven double‑figure scorers. The Stormers dominated the glass 58–33, finished with a 25–9 advantage in assists, generated 11 steals and outscored Harper 55–19 in bench production. MATC also held a 21–11 edge in second‑chance points and went 21‑for‑23 at the free‑throw line, while Harper shot 45.7 percent from the field on 37‑for‑81 shooting.

"Our offense was clicking, but I wasn't happy with our defense," Casey said. "We need more consistency on that end and can't just play defense when we feel like it. If we want to do the things we talk about, we have to be solid defensively for a full game."

Hackett led the Stormers with 20 points on 9‑for‑11 shooting, adding five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Jordan Jones, making a spot start after spending most of the season coming off the bench, delivered 17 points on 7‑for‑11 shooting along with six rebounds and two steals. Sophomore guard Noah Daniels added 18 points and three assists, while Washington finished with eight points and nine assists. Aidan Chapman chipped in 12 points on 4‑for‑7 shooting from three, and Sterling Hoarde and Ozzie Johnson each scored 10, with Johnson adding a team‑high nine rebounds, two blocks and a steal.

"Our mindset right now is to take each game one at a time, not looking too far ahead or too far back," Jones said. "We still have some things we need to clean up from tonight's win."
