MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Milwaukee Area Technical College men's basketball head coach
Randy Casey has been named the 2025‑26 Region 4 Midwest District A Coach of the Year, earning the honor for the eighth time in his career and the fifth consecutive season. The award extends a remarkable run for Casey, who also earned the honor in 2012, 2019, 2020, and every season from 2022 through 2026.
Editor's note: The only year Casey did not receive the award during this stretch was in 2021, when MATC declined a postseason berth due to COVID‑19 precautions.
Casey's latest honor comes during one of the most successful seasons in program history. After finishing 16‑18 a year ago, MATC has surged to a 31‑5 record and climbed as high as No. 5 in the NJCAA Division II national rankings. The Stormers went 27‑3 in the regular season, finished 13‑0 at home and closed the schedule on a 20‑game win streak before sweeping the Region 4 Tournament to capture the Midwest District A championship. That run propelled MATC back to the NJCAA National Tournament, where the Stormers have since earned the No. 3 seed. Between the regular season, the region tournament and the early stages of the national tournament, MATC has extended its winning streak to 24 games before falling to Parkland College in the quarterfinal round of the national tournament. The program also announced three All‑Region selections earlier this week in
Jayden Hackett,
Raydelh Boutin and
Noah Daniels, highlighting the depth and balance of Casey's roster.
"At the end of the day, this coaching award is really about the players," MATC head coach
Randy Casey said. "And the trust they have in me and in our coaching staff. None of that success — none of our success as coaches — comes without them and without the true buy‑in of our culture and what we want to do here as a program."
MATC's rise has been powered by one of the most efficient and explosive statistical profiles across the country. The Stormers rank second nationally in scoring at 103.7 points per game, fourth in field‑goal percentage at 51.8 percent and second in total rebounds at 46.4 per game. They also sit inside the national top ten in assists, steals, offensive efficiency and net efficiency, reflecting a team built to play fast, share the ball and defend with discipline.
This season Casey assembled a roster that blended true freshmen, returning sophomores, high‑impact transfers and multiple former players who returned to the program. That unique combination produced a group that surged through the second half of the season and consistently delivered in high‑pressure moments. MATC's ability to execute late in games, control tempo and impose its style on opponents became defining traits of a team that has risen into the upper echelon of Division II.
"I just think it was what our coaching staff did in recruiting and making sure we brought in the right guys who fit our system," Casey said. "Then early on, everybody just seemed to gel and get along."
Now in his 18th season leading the Stormers, Casey has built MATC into one of the most stable and respected programs in the Midwest and across the country. His updated career record at MATC stands at 376‑193, a reflection of sustained success across multiple eras, roster cycles and the program's transition from NJCAA Division III to Division II in 2018‑19.
Casey's seventh Coach of the Year award just further reinforces his standing as one of the top coaches in Region 4 and underscores the standard of excellence that has come to define MATC men's basketball.
