MOLINE, Ill. — In a clash of unbeaten teams, the Milwaukee Area Technical College women's soccer squad handed Black Hawk College its first loss of the 2025–26 season, edging the Braves 3-2 on their home turf Saturday afternoon.
Both teams traded blows, but a 2-1 halftime lead for the Stormers proved decisive, as each side added one goal in the final 45 minutes. With the win, MATC improved to 3-0-1 — the best start in program history.
"Our defense did a great job anticipating their play and shutting down their attack, with our goalie
Caroline Buczynski cleaning up most of the shots on goal," head coach Aron "Buddy" Gentry said. "The way the women connected passes throughout the match was our best yet. When the few opportunities to shoot came, they finished them. Beating an undefeated team is no small feat, but our unity and focus helped lead us to victory."
MATC totaled 10 shots — all on goal — with three converting into scores, including two off assists.
Katelyn Haeft opened the scoring in the 16th minute off a well-placed pass from sophomore teammate
Hannah Christopherson. Black Hawk responded 17 minutes later to tie the match at 1-1. In the 37th minute, Haeft broke through the defense for an unassisted goal, giving the Stormers a 2-1 edge heading into halftime.
The second half saw limited scoring, with each team adding one goal.
Lia Peterson netted MATC's final score in the 53rd minute off an assist from Haeft. Buczynski allowed her second and final goal in the 61st minute and finished with 12 saves.
